12+ Characteristics of Quality Backlinks and Ways to Get Them

12+ Characteristics of Quality Backlinks and Ways to Get Them. When it comes to SEO, surely the topic that is always hotly discussed is backlinks. Almost all SEO practitioners are definitely hunting for quality backlinks for their web SEO Off-Page optimization.

Because of the large influence of backlinks on increasing the ranking of an article, people are even willing to pay expensive backlink services to optimize the websites they manage.

It’s not wrong. Do not deny that, backlinks for blogs are indeed powerful as “shortcuts” to get traffic in a fast way.

Even if you return to the original function, the backlinks should be created naturally. Voluntarily given backlinks from other websites to your blog because of your quality content. That’s the real essence, as I mentioned in the article on the other side of SEO Off-Page.

But indeed such a thing takes a very long time and is quite difficult. You need to build strong authority to the level that many readers voluntarily refer to your blog.

Well, this time I will discuss more deeply about backlinks. Starting from the definition, the type, some of the sources, to the criteria that you can use as a reference for assessing the quality of backlinks.

In simple language, backlinks are all links from outside that point to your blog. Backlinks are often called external links. The value of external links is greater than internal links.

With external links, Google sees that people are referring to your blog. That way, Google considers your content or blog to be quality. Simple like that.

Based on the type, backlinks are divided into 2, namely Dofollow and Nofollow backlinks. If the backlink is of the Dofollow type, it means that Google will crawl the link to its destination. This means that the backlink has value.

If Nofollow, that means you don’t allow Google to crawl the link. So the backlink will be ignored by the Google robot.

The more (and quality) backlinks that come in, the higher the reputation of your blog in the eyes of Google. Because backlinks come from quality websites, the quality is “transmitted” to your blog too.

The word “contagious” may be more familiarly known as link juice.

The higher the reputation of your blog, it will certainly have an impact on the ranking of the articles in it which will increase significantly. That way, the number of visitors is certain to also increase.

Hence, there are 2 main techniques for SEO practitioners in hunting for backlinks. The first technique is to build as many backlinks as possible leading to their blog. Focus on quantity.

The second technique, hunting just a few backlinks, but those that come from very quality sources. Sourced from the “heavyweight” website.

In the past, using the former was still very effective. Now, besides the impact is not too significant, your blog is also potentially “drowned” by Google because it is considered spam.

So it’s clear that the second technique makes more sense to do at this point. I also often find articles perched on the first page of Google, only supported by 3–5 backlinks.

But the source of the backlink is indeed heavy.

Then how do you see if a backlink is quality or not? Many parameters. I will only cover a few, based on my experience and personal point of view.

If there is a wrong explanation, reprimand me in the comments column. But if it’s just a different view, there’s no need to protest. This is an educational article, not a quick count for the presidential election, hahaha.

To be able to see the data that I will mention below, it’s best to use a paid tool like Ahrefs. If the version is free you can try Neil Patel’s Ubersuggest tool.

1. Website reputation

There are several parameters to judge this. The most common use of DA / PA from Moz. The higher the DA (Domain Authority) number, it is almost certain that the website has a good reputation.

So why do many SEO practitioners hunt for expired domains that have high DA? Because if you create a web PBN with this domain, the resulting backlinks to your blog will have a big impact.

At the bottom, I will mention a little about PBN.

2. Website activity

Make sure the source of your backlink is on a website that is still actively updating articles. If the website hasn’t updated the article for a long time, then it is likely that Googlebot has rarely stopped by too.

If so, usually the backlinks that are made are not too significant for the impact on the increase in the ranking of your article. And new articles that contain your backlinks are usually difficult to index.

3. Have Traffic

In addition to still actively updating articles, it would be better if your backlink source website has visitors. The higher the traffic, the better. This means that the website has a weight.

The effect is, usually the backlinks that are given from the web immediately feel the impact in a short time. Your articles went up significantly. Google wants backlinks to occur naturally.

So backlinks that come from an active web, frequently update articles, have traffic, will be seen by Google as something natural. That’s why Google prioritizes conditions like this.

4. Topic Relevance

Make sure the topic/niche discussed on the backlink web source is relevant to the topic of your blog. At least relevant, if possible, the topic is better.

For example, blogs that discuss SEO provide backlinks to blogs that discuss WordPress. These two topics are not the same, but they are relevant, there is a connection.

5. Content Language

If your blog is in Indonesian, the backlink source should also be in Indonesian. I think it’s rare for the English website to provide a reference link to an Indonesian language blog, haha.

So try to make the content language that contains backlinks adjusted to the language of the content on your main blog, so that it is relevant.

Make sure the type is Dofollow, so your blog “catches” the reputation of the backlink source web. As for Nofollow, I don’t know if Google ignored it 100%, or if it still had a slight impact.

If you know, let’s discuss this in the comments.

The placement of quality backlinks is inside articles, commonly referred to as contextual links. This doesn’t mean that links in comments, sidebars, or footers aren’t allowed. Fine, but the best in the article.

Plus, in other positions, in my opinion, several WordPress themes make it automatically Nofollow. For example, in the comments column, all the links there are Nofollow.

8. Use of Anchor Text

Anchor text is a word/sentence that helps Google identify the content of the destination link. So if you want to make a backlink to the article “how to create a blog”, then make sure to use the appropriate anchor text.

Does it have to be exactly “how to create a blog”?

Usually, when creating backlinks, it’s not just from one website. So my advice is to differentiate it. I have discussed several types of anchor text that you can use as a combination.

There are many sources of backlinks, from other web articles, links on social media profiles, social bookmarking, and others. So the characteristics of quality backlinks are those that come from different sources so that they are natural.

Once again I say. Backlinks for SEO should appear naturally because other websites voluntarily recommend your blog. If the backlink is deliberately created, so make it as natural as possible.

Newly created backlinks with backlinks created 4 months ago can have a different effect. It takes time to feel the impact of backlinks. It is not certain how long it will take, depending on the age and quality of the source.

As I mentioned, the best backlink-building technique today is to focus on quality, not quantity, aka spam. But that doesn’t mean you can’t plant lots of backlinks.

If indeed you can find good sources of backlinks, why not make more and distribute them to your blog articles, so that the “transmission” of authority is more evenly distributed.

12. Indexed

The last point, and the most important. It’s useless if you apply the 11 points above, if the source of your backlink is not indexed by Google, it won’t have any effect on your blog, hahaha.

Have you begun to imagine how the criteria for good backlinks actually are? Or maybe you want to add another point, please write in the comments. I will be happy to add to this article.

Next, I will briefly discuss some of the commonly known and most frequently used backlink sources. Maybe there are some who are not good, maybe it is still good if you know the technique.

So I will not discuss the effect or not, because the implementation results for each person can be different.

1. Guest Posting

Become a contributor, guest writer, guest blogger, or whatever you know. This is one of the best backlink sources if you load it in quality articles on the relevant web.

2. Comments on the Web

Have you ever seen comments on people’s webs, the name of the comments “website creation services”? Is that really the name of the person? Hahaha.

The name in the comments column contains the link. So people make anchor text according to the targeted keywords and contain their blog link. But like I said, the backlinks in the comments are Nofollow.

This backlink source is similar to the guest post. The difference is if you are a guest writer you write the articles yourself. As for the link placement, you ask the blog owner to insert a backlink in one of their articles.

Generally, there is no charge for being a guest writer. If the link placement is definitely paid, it will adjust the quality of the web and the amount of traffic.

Another model is review services. So the web owner will write a review article about the product, service, or whatever you ask for, and there is a backlink in the paid article.

All links in the sidebar, header, and footer are also called sitewide links. Although not all, generally the nature of the sitewide link is Nofollow.

6. Blogroll List

For example Blogroll Choky Sihombing, a travel blogger. The contents are other people’s web references made on the initiative of the Blogroll owner.

If you think your blog is relevant to the list, there’s nothing wrong with asking the Blogroll owner to be included.

This is also a source of backlinks, you know. Even though the source of the backlink is the same as what I have mentioned above, some people choose a shortcut by buying backlink services from other people.

That way, blog owners simply focus on quality and consistency in producing content only. Don’t think technically about looking for backlinks.

Some of my blogs also use backlink services. Of course, you have to be selective in choosing yes. Instead of ranking up, your blog will disappear from circulation if you choose the wrong backlink.

8. Building PBN

Of the many sources above, this is a type of backlink that is said to be powerful. PBN is short for Private Blog Network, a network of several blogs created to support the main web.

SEO expert practitioners usually have a number of PBNs that they build themselves. Apart from that, there are many who provide PBN backlink services.

Closing

At this point, I think it is quite clear in a brief discussion about the meaning, criteria for quality backlinks, and also some of the sources.

You should consider carefully when to start using backlinks, which sources should make backlinks from, and make sure that the links that are made are really of high quality.
